Information about the coronavirus

Dear Visitors,

Due to the coronavirus, the Hamburg State Opera remains closed through the end of the 2019/20 season, by order of the authorities. This means that not only performances from March 13 to April 30, 2020 have been cancelled, but all other performances scheduled through the end of June at all performance venues. This also concerns concerts of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra at the Elbphilharmonie.

Of course, the Hamburg State Opera will refund the value of all tickets bought by visitors to the performances indicated above.

Many of our visitors have inquired about the possibility of donating the value of their tickets for cancelled performances to the Hamburg State Opera. We are very grateful for this support and delighted to accommodate such generosity; we have therefore added a donation option on our online refund form. Your donation supports the education of young artists through the Hamburg State Opera’s International Opera Studio, the Ballet School of the Hamburg Ballet and the Orchestral Academy of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra (depending on the event). Of course we would be happy to provide you with a donation receipt for your taxes; this will be sent automatically.

For the reimbursement of your tickets and/or the possibility of donating their value, our online refund form is at your disposal. This is the easiest way for you to inform us how to proceed regarding your tickets. You thereby help us speed up the process of dealing with your requests.

Please note the following information on the refund process:

Individual Tickets

The online refund form can only be used for tickets bought directly at our ticket office, via phone sales or via the State Opera’s or the Philharmonic State Orchestra’s online shops. Before submitting the form, please check your account and/or credit card statements to ascertain whether you have already received your refund, since we were able to do some refund transactions automatically. This process has now been completed and only affected the performances from March 13 to April 30, 2020. If you have not received a refund by now, please use the form.

If the refund concerns several performances, please indicate this by using the function “Add another event”. You will receive an email confirming the receipt of your refund request to the email address you have entered.

There is a special regulation and update regarding tickets to the “Nijinsky Gala XLVI” on June 28, 2020. The tickets will be transferred to the “Nijinsky Gala XLVII” on June 27, 2021. Ticket buyers will be informed about the exact procedure separately. If you do not wish to have your tickets transferred to 2021, of course the ticket price can be refunded. Due to this regulation, the application process for the “Nijinsky Gala” of the 2020/21 season will not take place.

 

It is not necessary to send us your tickets if they were booked via your personal customer account at the State Opera. You will recognize this from the fact that your tickets include your customer number (abbreviated “KdNr.” on your tickets).

For tickets bought anonymously via the State Opera’s ticket office, please also fill out the online reimbursement form and also send us the tickets in question by mail (ideally with a copy of the email confirming receipt of your reimbursement form) to the following address:

Once we have received the original tickets, we will process your request.

We ask for your understanding that it is not possible to pay out refunds in cash at our ticket office; all refunds must be made via wire transfer.

To return tickets which were purchased via external sales points, such as theatre shops, the online shops of CTS Eventim, visitor organizations or travel agencies, please contact the seller in question directly.

Subscription Tickets

All information about subscription tickets for the 2020/21 season can be found in our frequently asked questions about tickets, cards and subscriptions. We will process all refund requests in the order in which they are received, but please be patient as it is expected that the refund process will take several weeks. If you have any questions, please contact our Tickets and Subscriptions Service team by e-mail. Due to the current situation, however, our box office is currently closed and our telephone availability is severely limited. We would therefore kindly ask you to refrain from making unnecessary inquiries if possible. This will help us to ensure that your ticket purchases can be reversed quickly.
