Sunday 16. Jun. 2019, 6.00 pm - 9.00 pm | Großes Haus Premiere
The summer premiere 2019 of the Hamburg Ballet will be changed to the program "Shakespeare – Sonnets" (working title). John Neumeier entrusts the creation of the prestigious opening premiere of the 45th Hamburg Ballet Days to three Young Choreographers: Marc Jubete, Aleix Martínez and Edvin Revazov. The world premiere of "The Glass Menagerie" by John Neumeier originally planned for this occasion, will be postponed until December 2019. The tickets already sold for the performances on the 16th, 18th and 28th of June remain valid, but can be exchanged or returned upon request.
Since his first season as ballet director in Hamburg, John Neumeier has encouraged his dancers to create their own choreographies together with their colleagues. The format "Young Choreographers" has become ever more important and has occasionally been transferred to the grand stage of the Hamburg State Opera: In 2005, the program "Schritte in die Zukunft" was premiered with works by Jirí Bubenícek, Marco Goecke, Christopher Wheeldon and Yukichi Hattori, followed in 2012 by "Renku" created by Orkan Dann and Yuka Oishi. Most recently, the 2016 program "Aspects of Creativity" replaced the traditional tour performances within the Hamburg Ballet Days.
