Gioachino Rossini

La Cenerentola

"La Cenerentola" is Rossini’s version of "Cinderella" and one of the world’s most beautiful bel canto operas. The libretto was written by Jacopo Ferretti, based on two models by Charles-Guillaume Etienne and Francesco Fiorini. Differing from the fairy-tale version of the Brothers Grimm, Ferretti replaces the symbol of the shoe with a bracelet. Rossini’s music offers many surprising moments: using rapid parlando passages and virtuosic ensembles, he masterfully combines the tragic and comical elements of the action.
