A baroque double trumpet concerto by Antonio Vivaldi, a rousing string symphony by the young Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, a romance for solo viola and orchestra by Max Bruch and the famous Wind Serenade by Antonín Dvořák – this year’s open-air concert of the Philharmonic State Orchestra offers an entertaining programme and, in addition, also contains some surprises. The Philharmonic’s open-air concert this year offers an entertaining programme: Kent Nagano conducts, and the soloists are all members of the Philharmonic.
Last year’s great open-air concert attracted about 10,000 visitors and, after two editions, it has become a fixed part of the Philharmonic Academy, with which Kent Nagano and the Philharmonic State Orchestra end their summer break, introducing the new concert and opera season. Originally planned as a major event on Rathausmarkt, this year the open-air concert will take place in a smaller format and with an altered programme, for the City of Hamburg currently only permits 1,000 visitors for major events. At the Stadtpark, the audience will find fixed seating, and on September 10 not all seats can be occupied; blocked seats will ensure the necessary distance from the next listener. Therefore, a maximum two adjacent seats may be booked. Facemasks are obligatory on the premises (except at the booked seat); there will be gastronomy and sanitary facilities available. Unlike previous years, it is impossible for us to offer general admission, due to the necessity of being able to trace all visitors. In order to avoid queues, there will be no evening box office; tickets may be bought exclusively in advance by calling +49 40 413 22 60 (Mon-Fri from 10 am to 2 pm) and via the ticket shop of Karsten Jahnke Konzertdirektion.
