A long-awaited reunion with Ingo Metzmacher, Hamburg’s former General Music Director! Even if it is still impossible to welcome a live audience to the hall due to the coronavirus, we present the Metzmacher’s return to the Philharmonic via a digital livestream. The programme features works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Dmitri Shostakovich, Hanns Eisler and Kurt Weill. An unusual programme, which is also a reminiscence: “Who is Afraid of 20th Century Music” is a matter close to Metzmacher’s heart, extensively documented on the eponymous CD cycle he recorded during his tenure in Hamburg with the Philharmonic State Orchestra.
