The world never stops beginning anew. Reaching into the gaping maw of fate – for the opening of the 2021 Hamburg International Music Festival, Kent Nagano and the Philharmonic State Orchestra present Beethoven’s Fifth and the world premiere of a work for Cello, Youth Choir and Orchestra commissioned from the American composer Sean Shepherd, setting a text by the Hamburg-based writer Ulla Hahn. The soloist Jan Vogler is also the artistic director of the Dresden Music Festival, where the work will be performed after its Hamburg world premiere.
