Conductor: Kent Nagano
Soprano: Lini Gong
Mezzo-soprano: Kristina Stanek
Tenor: Oleksiy Palchykov
Bass-baritone: Chao Deng
Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg

On this evening, the German composer from Cologne who was such a hit in Paris is represented with excerpts from his oeuvre, which includes such stylistically varied works as the operettas with their acerbic satire, but also the stroke of genius “The Tales of Hoffmann”, deeply rooted in E.T.A. Hoffmann’s romanticism. This latter opera was never completed and is capable of showing a totally different face in every new production. Under Kent Nagano’s baton, members of the opera ensemble and the Philharmonic State Orchestra present overtures, arias, duets and ensemble scenes from “La Belle Hélène”, “La vie Parisienne”, “La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein”, “Orphée aux enfers” and “Les Contes d’Hoffmann”.

Please note: this performance is also the festive finale of Hamburg’s Cultural Summer, and will feature a short speech by Hamburg’s Mayor, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, in the presence of Dr. Carsten Brosda, Hamburg’s Senator of Culture, and Jana Schiedek, Councillor of Culture.
