"He", an art song singer in a creative crisis, between audience expectations and his own compulsions, comes to terms with his feelings for "her" - a woman who is present in his life as a muse, a partner and an ideal image. Or is "she" the one who abuses her power over the young man through unconditional self-sacrifice?
At this crossover song evening Arnold Schoenberg's book "der Hängenden Gärten" op. 15 after Stefan George mixes with Robert Schumann's "Frauenliebe und Leben" op. 42 after Adelbert von Chamisso. The result is a dialogue between the many facets of the art song, atonality and romanticism, sound and word: "Do not always speak of the foliage," George says - "Now you have given me the first pain," Chamisso replies.
But the foliage that falls in paradise and opera stable is colorful, artificial and "knitted": part of the production equipment is provided by the Wooligans - a group that since 2017 "knits" clothes for people in need - a mixture of knitting and crochet.
