Where opera stars usually come and go, suddenly everything is about lying like your pants are on fire. Orchestra musicians meet poetry slammers, and together they spin the story of the arch-liar Peer Gynt anew. Embellished in lurid words, the adventures of the farmer’s son Peer Gynt who tries to escape reality by telling tall tales meet the ludicrous, gaudy and occasionally also sad and sombre melodies by Edvard Grieg.

Under the title "Philharmonic Slam", the Hamburg State Opera and the Philharmonic State Orchestra offer a very special concert on June 15, 2019 for slam enthusiasts, music fans and those who wish to experience the State Opera in a very different light. Five poetry slammers write and perform texts between and above the music of the two orchestral suites Edvard Grieg wrote as incidental music for the play "Peer Gynt". Live drawings and a DJ round out the performance.
