8th Philharmonic Concert

Kent Nagano

Johannes Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat-major Op. 83

Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 7 in E-major

Conductor: Kent Nagano
Piano: Denis Matsuev
Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg

“Superb”, “extraordinary”, “enchanting” – for more than 20 years, Denis Matsuev has been conquering concert halls and audience hearts. His interpretations on stage and his recordings, especially of the romantic repertoire, invariably reap enthusiasm and admiration. During the Philharmonic Concert No. 8, the Russian virtuoso plays Johannes Brahms’ Second Piano Concerto, which moved the critic Eduard Hanslick to call it “a grand symphony with piano obligato” in 1882. The Seventh Symphony, first performed in Leipzig in 1884, finally brought the 60-year-old Anton Bruckner the breakthrough and the recognition he craved as a composer.
