The 2019/20 season

The program for the upcoming season has been released: five premieres at the Hamburg State Opera, one premiere in the Elbphilharmonie. Moreover, we look forward to two new productions, one German premiere and one revival at opera stabile. At the "Probebühne 1", there will be one world premiere. Furthermore, 28 pieces from our repertoire as well as the 3rd Italian Opera Weeks! Find the upcoming season's schedule and booklet here.
From May 20th, ticket sales will start for the entire opera and ballet season (for subscribers as of May 16th).



Nadezhda Karyazina is Carmen

From February 7th on, Georges Bizet's world success is back on our stage. Nadezhda Karyazina (role debut) takes over the role of Carmen, while their male counterparts Don José and Escamillo are sung by Teodor Ilincai (role debut) and Gábor Bretz. Young Swiss conductor Lorenzo Viotti and Ruzan Mantashyan as Micaëla make their debut at the Hamburg State Opera. Read more...

"Le Nozze di Figaro" on schedule again

Stefan Herheim's impressive production of Mozart's work full of ruses and intrigues is back on stage from February 23rd. Georg Nigl makes his role debut in the title role, as does Elbenita Kajtazi as Susanna. Under the conduction of Volker Krafft, Kartal Karagedik and Nicole Heaston can also be heard as Count and Countess Almaviva. Lilly Jørstad takes on the role of Cherubino. Read more...

John Neumeier stages "Orphée et Eurydice"

The Artistic Director of the Hamburg Ballet stages Christoph Willibald Gluck's opera in our next premiere of this season from February 3, 2019! Alessandro De Marchi returns to the orchestra podium. The singers are Andriana Chuchman, Marie-Sophie Pollak and Dmitry Korchak. The Hamburg Ballet is dancing. Read more...



Who's the fairest one of all?

Narea Son becomes Snow White in a new staging by Birgit Kajtna. Support for Snow White comes from the Seven Dwarves, which are portrayed by young pupils from Hamburg. This opera piccola premieres on February 9th in our opera stabile. Read more...

Kirill Serebrennikov - Nabucco


Kirill Serebrennikov stages "Nabucco"

he Russian director will revise Giuseppe Verdi's opera of freedom under the musical direction of Paolo Carignani. The Greek baritone Dimitri Platanias is Nabucco. Dovlet Nurgeldiyev takes over the role of Ismaele. Oksana Dyka and Géraldine Chauvet are Abigaille and Fenena. The premiere of "Nabucco" on March 10th also marks the begin of the Italian Opera Weeks 2019. Read more...

From March 10 until April 6 we welcome international stars in the most popular Italian operas at Hamburg State Opera. Kristine Opolais, Julia Lezhneva, Irina Lungu, Stephen Costello, Ramón Vargas and many more will be guest starring in "Nabucco", "Rigoletto", "La Traviata", "Manon Lescaut", "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" and "Un Ballo in Maschera" as well as the 7th Philharmonic Concert. Cast changes

Marie-Sophie Pollak will sing the role of L'Amour in "Orphée et Eurydice" (from 03.02.2019) for Elbenita Kajtazi.
Nicole Heaston will sing the role of Contessa d'Almaviva in "Le Nozze di Figaro" (from 23.02.2019) for Nadine Koutcher.
Vittorio Prato will sing the role of Lescaut in "Manon Lescaut" (on 21. and 29. March 2019) for Dalibor Jenis, Francesco Ivan Ciampa will conduct for Christoph Gedschold.

ARTE Opera Season


Digital "ARTE Opera Season"

European cultural channel ARTE is launching a new online service in partnership with 22 European opera houses: "ARTE Opera Season." The performances of the participating opera houses will be broadcastes live every month (via "ARTE Concert") and will be available online.
